BARAMULLA, SEPTEMBER 15: As part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative, aimed at promoting youth engagement in both sports and democratic participation, the UT Level Inter-Division Football Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Boys officially began today at Showkat Ali Stadium, Khawaja Bagh, Baramulla.

Organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, and hosted by District Baramulla, the competition will run until September 17, 2024.

In his opening remarks, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Baramulla encouraged the young athletes to pursue excellence through hard work, discipline, and teamwork—essential traits for success on and off the field. He also underscored the role of youth in shaping the future and encouraged them to be active participants in the democratic process.

The competition includes three categories—Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19—with three teams each from Jammu and Kashmir Divisions. Each team will play three matches within their respective age group, competing for top honors.

On day one, Kashmir Division dominated the field, securing victories in all three matches, In the Under-19 category, Kashmir Division defeated Jammu Division with a score of 4-1, in the Under-14 category, Kashmir Division won 2-0 against Jammu Division, in the Under-17 category, Kashmir Division delivered an impressive 7-0 victory over Jammu Division

With all teams having played their first matches, the tournament is set to intensify in the coming days, with the next round of matches scheduled for tomorrow.

In alignment with the SVEEP initiative, the event not only promotes sports but also raises awareness among youth about their civic responsibilities. The Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, aims to create well-rounded individuals by encouraging them to excel both as athletes and as informed, responsible citizens.
