Jammu, Nov 1,: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today reassured the public that the NC-led government can make significant decisions within the framework of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 .

Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Choudhary challenged the notion that the government’s hands are tied, saying, “Who told you we cannot take big decisions? There is no such restriction in the Act.”

Choudhary hailed the recent assembly election as a milestone, marking the restoration of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir after years of transition. He noted that the elected government is now being formed, bringing hope to the people of the erstwhile state.

In response to BJP celebrations over Jammu and Kashmir’s Union Territory status, Choudhary remarked, “They may be celebrating today, but deep down, they also wish for Jammu and Kashmir to regain statehood.”

The Deputy CM highlighted the economic significance of the “Darbar Move stating that this tradition supports local hotels, transport services, and small businesses, providing employment for many residents. Choudhary emphasized the National Conference’s commitment to sustaining this move, deeming it vital to Jammu’s economic health.

Choudhary urged BJP leaders to reflect on their electoral promises and accomplishments. He pointed out that the National Conference, under Farooq and Omar Abdullah’s leadership, has consistently represented the people’s needs and aspirations, including the demand for statehood.
