Election binaries in UP

In Uttar Pradesh which is all set to go for polls in next some time witnessed several ministers of the Yogi-led Government changing goalposts. The move, while it has not been surprising, has, done damage to the BJP which has been enjoying power in the state considered to be important for gauging and understanding the political mood of the country.
For the people who changed the goalposts, they alleged that the BJP has failed in delivering, working for the betterment and development of the backward classes and that they see a better future for themselves as well for the people they represent with Akhilesh Yadav.
The things are tricky and quite slippery and that can be understood by the fact that the daughter in law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Aparna Yadav, snubbed the Samajwadi Party and joined the BJP when she was denied a ticket from the party.
The binaries are simple in UP. Those who left BJP somewhere knew that they might not get the ticket to contest the elections, or, they knew the revolt and dissatisfaction of the people they represent against the ruling party and saw the Samajwadi Party as a better option. Similarly, those who were denied tickets by the Samajwadi Party joined BJP in a bid to get recognition after being pushed aside by the other side.
The drama of changing sides will affect the BJP most as other parties haven’t got much to lose because it is the BJP that will have to show its grip. Somewhere, the attempt was carried out to create the Akhilesh wave in the state, but the question remains, how far has the SP succeeded in doing so—which is something that will become crystal clear after March 10.
