JAMMU, DECEMBER 05: Mission Shakti SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with JKNRLM, on Thursday organized an empowering awareness program at BTC Bishnah to acquaint women self help group members about Gender Equality and legal protection against domestic violence.

The initiative was designed to inform the participants about the wrong perceptions which have distorted the appropriate meaning of Gender. They were educated about the laws that can break the stereotypes of gender based violence and promote women empowerment. The participants were also imparted knowledge about various government schemes that are focusing on uplifting and supporting women, with a broader mission of fostering gender equality and strengthening the role of women in society.

Mission Shakti’s team of officials led an informative session covering an array of government programs that cater specifically to women’s welfare, economic empowerment, safety, and security.

Key schemes highlighted included Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)- Providing financial support to pregnant and lactating women to improve health and nutrition; State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS):

Financial assistance for underprivileged women to support marriage-related expenses; Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY): A scheme to encourage safe motherhood through institutional deliveries among poor pregnant women; Widow and Old Age Pension Schemes: Ensuring financial aid for widows and the elderly, focusing on social security for vulnerable groups.

The session also introduced women to vocational and entrepreneurship programs such as Skill Development Courses at ITIs and Polytechnics: Training women in technical skills to enhance employability; Business Startup Schemes: Schemes like the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Tejaswini, Mumkin, SC/ST Corporation, and schemes implemented by the Women Development Corporation (WDC), offering women the resources and guidance to start their own ventures.

Beyond these specific schemes, Mission Shakti emphasized the critical role of women in nation-building and highlighted the importance of the girl child in Indian society. Through the BBBP scheme, this initiative underlines the message that educating and empowering women is central

Mission Shakti SANKALP HEW continues to lead from the front in creating meaningful change and is committed to empowering women across every aspect of life, solidifying their position as equal and vital contributors to India’s progress.
