DLSA Samba inaugurates 4 day Orientation Training Program for implementation of NALSA Scheme

SAMBA, JANUARY 03: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Samba today inaugurated a four day Orientation Training Programme for the members of the Legal Services Unit for Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM) and Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC).

The event was held under the Chairmanship of Ravinder Nath Wattal, Chairman DLSA /Pr. District & Sessions Judge and under the supervision of Sandeep Singh Sen Secretary DLSA.

The initiative aims to enhance the understanding and implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024.
The programme was inaugurated in the Conference Hall of ADR Centre, DLSA by the Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge), in presence of the Child Welfare Committee, Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice Board and Superintendent of Palaash (home for boys) and Pareesh a home for girls, besides members of JJB and LSUM, Panel Lawyers and PLVs of DLSA Samba.

The inaugural session highlighted the importance of the scheme in ensuring access to justice for individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities.

Bala Jyoti, Former District and Session Judge, Advisor/Mentor of the Committee, addressed the participants virtually. She emphasized the need for effective implementation of the scheme and provided valuable insights on the role of LSUM and LSUC in bridging the gap between the legal system and vulnerable individuals. She also shared her experience in the implementation of Child related laws and she further emphasised that Children are the most vulnerable yet valuable segment of our society and they represent the hope and promise of a better future and as caretakers of this future, it is our collective responsibility to ensure they grow up in an environment that nurtures their rights, dignity and well-being.

The Secretary DLSA Samba further elaborated on the objectives of the orientation programme, underscoring its importance in equipping the participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to implement the scheme effectively.

The four days orientation programme is poised to be a significant step in fostering collaboration and understanding among stakeholders, ultimately aiming to ensure better legal aid and support for persons with mental and intellectual disabilities in the region and children in need of care and protection.
