SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 31: In recognition of the growing importance of mental health, Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina, Srinagar Thursday organized an awareness program titled ‘Making Mental Health a Priority’ in the auditorium of the college.
The event was a collaborative effort of the Department of Education, Psychological Counselling Cell, and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college, and Tele-Mental Health Assistance and Networking across States (Tele-MANAS) Kashmir unit.
The program commenced with an address by Prof. Fouzia Durrani, Senior Faculty member of the college, who emphasized the college’s commitment to supporting mental well-being among students and staff.
This was followed by the keynote address presented by Dr. Musharraf Rehman, Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), who highlighted the impact of mental health on educational and personal growth.
A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina and Tele-MANAS Kashmir. The MoU aims to provide the college going community with access to ongoing mental health resources, tele-counselling, and awareness initiatives.
Aksa, an expert in mental health, delivered an insightful presentation on mental health and the services provided by Tele-MANAS. She emphasized upon the importance of early intervention and mental health awareness, especially for adolescents, who often face unique challenges during this transitional phase of life.
The program also included an interactive Question and Answer Session, where the panelists Dr. Heena, Dr. Deeba, and Aksa responded to students’ questions, creating a safe space for them to discuss mental health concerns openly.
