Srinagar, May 06 : Amid the reports of the Union Government contemplating the revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah cautioned on Monday that attacks continue to plague even the most tranquil regions of the erstwhile state. Omar’s remarks come against the backdrop of recent incidents striking areas known for their relative peace in Pir Panchal region.

As per the news agency, addressing an election rally in north Kashmir, NC Vice President and party’s LS candidate from Baramulla highlighted that over the past four years, terrorist strikes have not ceased, with incidents cropping up notably in Srinagar, Rajouri, and Poonch. The resurgence of violence in these traditionally serene locales according to Omar highlight the persistent challenge posed by terrorism in the region.

Speaking on the prospect of diplomatic engagements between India and Pakistan, Omar voiced optimism, evoking the sentiment espoused by former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who famously remarked that while friends might change, neighbors remain constant. With a new government set to take the reins, Omar expressed hope that dialogue would pave the way for improved relations between the two nations.

In a broader reflection on the socio-political climate in India, NC Vice President decried the rising tide of animosity and targeted persecution, particularly against the Muslim community. He cautioned against the pernicious effects of spreading hatred, emphasizing that such divisive rhetoric threatens the unity and progress of the nation. Omar further highlighted the significance of inclusivity and mutual respect in fostering a cohesive society, highlighting the pivotal role that India’s diverse populace plays in its collective advancement
