Many people question Dr Farooq’s abrupt metamorphosis, therefore they are sceptical of his newfound religious dedication, because, who would have thought that the same man who had been leading a debauched life would now be a born-again preacher? No? People are in awe of it. But he hasn’t been deterred by the doubters and has remained committed to sharing the gospel and guiding others toward salvation because, as you can see in his eyes, he has already found one for himself. His actions serve as an illustration of what can happen when you give your life to God and allow Him to direct you toward righteousness, especially when that person already has one foot in the grave and the other dangling in the air.
I was being sarcastic above. But the reality is that Dr Farooq’s sermons are indigestible because the reality is known to everyone. His flamboyant endeavours when he was the son of the Chief Minister and then the Chief Minister himself are no secret, and now, when the old-age and political isolation have engulfed him, he has set foot to exploit the religiously tolerant Kashmiri society, which, not only is, unacceptable but is rather a mockery he is making out of himself. Even though his innards know that he is acting, he has the ability to make his audience literally sob and wail, so one must not doubt that he is an extraordinarily skilled politician J&K has ever produced. Such artistry!
The point is, even if it is Dr Farooq or any other seasoned politicians of J&K, they better refrain from being pretentious, because people are no fools, they know everything in detail, and are no less than lie detectors. More importantly, Dr Sahib, if people are not reacting to your artistry, better not consider it their acceptance. They know you are putting up a show; they know who you are; they also are well aware of you and your party trying hard to find a place. Though despite all differences we respect you because of your age, but “Ye public hai, ye sab jaante hai”—in old age, you also must remember that!
