Awareness event held at GMHSS Ramban to mark World Day against Child Labour

RAMBAN, JUNE 12 : To commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour, the Labour Department Ramban, in collaboration with Government Model Higher Secondary School (GMHSS), Ramban, organized an awareness programme under the global theme “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do. Let’s speed up our efforts.”

The event was presided over by Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Amit Kumar. The host school Principal Kewal Krishan Sharma, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Nighat Ganai school staff, students and other stakeholders attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, the ALC highlighted the need to continue and accelerate efforts to eradicate child labour. “Though much progress has been made through legal frameworks and awareness campaigns, a united and sustained community response is essential to address the root causes and protect every child’s right to education and a dignified life,” he maintained.

The School Principal appreciated the initiative and emphasized that education is the most powerful tool in combating child labour. He encouraged students to play an active role in raising awareness within their families and localities.

The Chairperson CWC urged parents, teachers and community leaders to remain vigilant and report any instances of child labour. She elaborated on the mechanisms in place to safeguard children and reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts to eliminate exploitation.

Other key speakers, including Lovepreet Singh from the employment department delivered a lecture on Career options and Project coordinator Mudasir Jiral highlighted the role of child helpline.

The event concluded with an interactive awareness session with the participants reiterating the resolve to uphold child rights and contribute towards building a child labour-free society.
