Srinagar: Inhabitants of Najan and its adjoining areas in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday complained that their area is without potable drinking water while the concerned department is paying no attention towards their sufferings.

The villagers told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the administration has failed to provide these basic facilities to the people. “The Jal-Shakti department has left them on God’s mercy as it has miserably failed to provide drinking water to them,” they said.

They said that they have approached the authorities many times and received assurance of getting the regular water supply soon but no step has been taken by them in this regard so far.

Hussain Ahmed Dar, a local, said the women folk face a lot of hardships in fetching water from different spots. “Amid this Ramadan month, we are without drinking water while the concerned authorities don’t pay attention to our sufferings,” he said.

He said that the government should look into the matter at an earliest so that residents here could heave a sigh of relief. “We are being forced to fetch and consume filthy water from a nearby stream as there is no proper drinking water supply in the area,” said another local resident.

Meanwhile, the residents of the affected village here appealed to the district administration and Jal-Shakti department to look into the matter—(KNO)
