Budgam: Army on Saturday launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Gazergund area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

An army official said the search operation was launched at around 02:30 pm after information regarding the movement of two militants in the area.

Younis Ahmad, a local, told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that he along with many others from the Gazergund area was not allowed to go home in the wake of CASO.

“We are stuck in the nearby village,” Younis said, adding, “I am worried about my family and kids at home.”

A vendor from the same village where CASO was in progress, said, “I sell vegetables in this village. I am also stuck here. People from other areas are also stuck here as nobody is allowed to move from the area until the search operation ends.”

Meanwhile, a resident of the Gazergund village told KNO over the phone that dozens of houses were searched during the operation, however, nothing was found.

Internet services were also snatched in the area.

Gazergund is 5 kilometres away from the district headquarters Budgam.

The search operation was over at 7:30 pm and no militant was found—(KNO)
