COVID-19: Eight die; 5,606 test positive as spike continues in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday reported eight deaths and another big spike of 5,606 cases pushing the number of active cases to 47,969 in the UT.
With eight more deaths, the death toll in J&K has reached 4,635 and 5,606 fresh positive cases reported on Wednesday have pushed the tally of positive cases to 414,772.
Of the exact number of 414,772 cases, 263,866 are from Kashmir division and 150,906 from Jammu division.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that among 5,606 new cases, 4,253 belong to Kashmir division while as 1,353 are from Jammu division, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 263,866 including 227,095 recoveries and 2,371 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 150,906 including 135,073 recoveries and 2,264 deaths.
The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 47,969 including 34,400 from Kashmir division and 13,569 from Jammu division.
With 5,005 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 362,168 which is 87.32 percent of the total cases.
“Cases tested positive in J&K include 1,305 from Srinagar, 440 from Baramulla, 803 from Budgam, 134 from Pulwama, 380 from Kupwara, 528 from Anantnag, 66 from Bandipora, 297 from Ganderbal, 265 from Kulgam and 35 Shopian in Kashmir division while as 1,353 from Jammu division include 678 from Jammu district, 129 from Udhampur, 78 from Rajouri, 84 from Doda, 38 from Kathua, 84 from Samba, 10 from Kishtwar, 49 from Poonch, 181 from Ramban and 22 from Reasi,” officials disclosed.
Meanwhile, authorities said that no fresh cases of Mucormycosis popularly known as black fungus was reported in the UT and the tally stands at 51.
As per officials figures, 95,148 positive cases including 893 deaths and 80,950 recoveries are from Srinagar, 34,227 including 297 deaths and 28,011 recoveries are from Baramulla, 32,094 including 27,738 recoveries and 225 deaths are from Budgam, 17,524 including 16,225 recoveries and 198 deaths are from Pulwama, 18,052 including 171 deaths and 16,387 recoveries are from Kupwara, 20,564 including 17,498 recoveries and 215 deaths are from Anantnag, 12,748 cases including 10,967 and 111 deaths are from Bandipora, 13,008 including 11,264 recoveries and 84 deaths are from Ganderbal, 14,503 including 12,293 recoveries and 118 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,998 including 5,762 recoveries and 59 deaths are from Shopian.
In Jammu division, 68,895 including 59,016 recoveries and 1,194 deaths are from Jammu district, 13,555 including 12,394 recoveries and 143 deaths are from Udhampur, 12,320 including 11,627 recoveries and 245 deaths are from Rajouri, 9,185 including 8,074 recoveries and 140 deaths are from Doda, 10,692 including 10,090 recoveries and 158 deaths are from Kathua, 8,390 including 7,765 recoveries and 120 deaths are from Samba, 5,217 including 4,971 recoveries and 45 deaths are from Kishtwar, 7,343 including 6,913 recoveries and 105 deaths are from Poonch, 6,965 including 6,298 recoveries and 69 deaths are from Ramban and 8,344 including 7,925 recoveries and 45 deaths are from Reasi.
As per the daily information bulletin 5,669,143 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 11,374 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 47,969 persons are in isolation.
According to the bulletin, 5,178,793 persons have completed the surveillance period and 426,372 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 21,059,806 samples are available. Out of 21,059,806 the number of samples tested negative stands at 20,645,034 while as 414,772 have tested positive, among them 47,969 persons are active, 362,168 persons have recovered and 4,635 persons have died.
