Stresses round-the-clock monitoring of upper reaches, flood-prone areas for swift response

BUDGAM, JULY 20: In view of the weather advisory issued by the Meteorological Department, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, today called for robust preparedness and coordinated response to tackle any weather-related emergency across the district.

The Deputy Commissioner issued these directions while chairing a high-level meeting to review the district’s preparedness and response measures in light of the prevailing weather forecast. He directed all concerned officers to maintain strict and continuous monitoring of upper reaches, low-lying areas and other vulnerable locations to facilitate timely relief and rescue operations in the event of any adverse weather situation.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed that the District Control Room shall remain operational round the clock, with similar control rooms functioning effectively at the Sub-Divisional level. He emphasized regular assessment of the situation and seamless coordination among all departments.

The Deputy Commissioner directed for that advance precautionary measures, including the relocation of families residing in highly vulnerable locations, particularly along the river belts of Doodganga, Shaliganga and Nallah Sukhnag, wherever necessary to safeguard lives and property.

He directed the immediate mobilisation and readiness of Police, SDRF, Civil Defence, I&FC, R&B, KPDCL, Jal Shakti teams, besides keeping men and machinery in complete readiness across the district.

The DC also instructed concerned departments to ensure the availability and operational readiness of dewatering pumps in flood-prone and low-lying areas to respond promptly in case of waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall. He further directed that temporary shelter facilities, along with essential arrangements, be kept ready for the safe and comfortable accommodation of any affected families.

The DC emphasized that all departments must ensure the prompt restoration of roads and other essential public services in the aftermath of any weather-related disruption. He also directed officers to maintain uninterrupted availability of essential commodities, including LPG and ration supplies, across the district.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner called on immediate disposal of relief cases under SDRF.
The meeting was attended by the, Additional District Development Commissioner, Vivek Agarwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Taufeeq Ahmad Gazi, Additional Superintendent of Police, Syed Sajad Hussain, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Superintending Engineers of various engineering departments, Chief Education Officer, Divisional Forest Officer, District Animal Husbandry Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Deputy Controller SDRF, Tehsildars and other concerned officers.
