BUDGAM, JULY 01: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Athar Aamir Kha, today chaired a review meeting to assess the implementation of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plan for rural areas of Sub-Division Chadoora, with emphasis on strengthening scientific waste management practices and improving sanitation services.
The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chadoora, Primrose Bashir; Assistant Commissioner Development; Assistant Commissioner Panchayat; Chief Education Officer; Block Development Officers; officers from various line departments; and representatives of civil society organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
At the outset, the meeting reviewed the existing manpower and institutional framework for solid waste management across the rural areas of Sub-Division Chadoora.
A detailed assessment was carried out to identify gaps in the existing system and discuss measures for strengthening institutional capacity and improving service delivery.
The DC stressed the need for ensuring strict compliance with door-to-door waste collection and segregation of waste at source. He directed the concerned departments to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and intensify public awareness campaigns to encourage community participation in scientific waste management.
The meeting also deliberated on improving the collection, transportation, processing and scientific disposal of solid waste, with particular focus on the safe handling and disposal of biomedical waste and electronic waste (e-waste).
The DC instructed the concerned departments to reinforce the existing waste management mechanism and ensure disposal practices are carried out strictly in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.
At the onset, the DC called upon all stakeholders, including line departments, civil society organisations and NGOs, to work in close collaboration for effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Plan and to promote sustainable sanitation and cleanliness across the rural areas of Sub-Division Chadoora.
