GANDERBAL, DECEMBER 03: In compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the matter titled ‘City Hounded by Strays, Kids Pay Price’ vs. State of Andhra Pradesh, a meeting of the District Level Committee (DLC) was today convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore.

At the outset, the committee held a detailed discussion on the Supreme Court’s directives including Animal Birth Control (ABC) and the rehabilitation of stray dogs.

The DC directed all departments to make necessary provisions for fencing and boundary walling in government offices, educational institutions, hospitals, and other public buildings to prevent stray dogs from entering such premises.

He called for vigorous IEC campaigns, including awareness camps and seminars across educational institutions, hospitals, and public transport hubs such as bus and sumo stands, to disseminate information on the Do’s and Don’ts in case of dog bites.

Chief Medical Officer was instructed to ensure regular procurement and availability of Anti-Rabies Vaccines (ARV) at all Primary Health Centres, along with adequate public awareness regarding their availability.

All departments, corporations, and Urban Local Bodies were further directed to designate Nodal Officers responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of premises and for ensuring prevention of stray dog habitation.

The DC instructed that the name and contact number of the Nodal Officer be prominently displayed at building entrances and list submitted to his office. He stressed strict compliance with all directions in letter and spirit.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Superintending Engineer R&B, Additional Superintendent of Police, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Chief Executive Officer Municipal Council Ganderbal, Deputy Education Officer, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, and other concerned officials.
