POONCH APRIL 22: In celebration of Earth Day, a large-scale plantation drive was organized today in Poonch under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal. The event was organised by the Forest Department in collaboration with the Forest Protection Force (FPF) aimed at promoting environmental awareness, sustainability and fostering a greener, healthier surroundings.

The Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the event by planting a Chinar sapling at FPF Complex, City Forest, marking the beginning of the campaign. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, government officials, members of civil society, and volunteers.

The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the participating students & shared valuable information regarding various local species and importance of tree plantation & forest conservation, particularly in wake of rising global environmental problems. “Planting trees is one of the simplest and most effective ways to combat climate change and restore ecological balance. Today’s saplings are tomorrow’s forests. It is our collective duty to preserve & protect them” he said.

Saplings of various indigenous species were planted during the drive, with the Forest Department ensuring proper maintenance and follow-up care. This initiative marked a meaningful celebration of World Earth Day and reflected the district administration’s commitment to sustainable development in the region.

World Earth Day, observed globally on April 22, serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect the planet.
