GDC Ramkote celebrates Earth Day 2025

KATHUA, APRIL 22: The NSS Unit of GDC Ramkote celebrated Global Earth Day 2025 today with a blend of activities under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet”.

The celebration started with a Plantation Drive in the college premises by planting saplings of Arjun, Sahjan and Guava. Thereafter, an Awareness Lecture on “Earth Day and its Importance” was organised to sensitise the students about environmental protection and conservation in this era of climate change.

The programme was organised under the supervision and guidance of Principal of the college Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, who. During his interaction, the Principal highlighted the importance of going back to nature and taking refuge in it for a happy and harmonious life. He mentioned that the students are the forerunners in the activities that protect and preserve our natural resources.

The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Shakeeb Manzer, faculty from the Department of Sociology, who talked about the significance of Earth Day and various efforts that need to be made for saving the planet from deforestation. A Pledge Taking Ceremony was also organised in which faculty and students took an oath to make individual and collective efforts for the planet’s well being and commit to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. Nearly 50 NSS volunteers participated in the programme that was organised by Prof. Anu Sharma, NSS PO of the college.

The event ended with a formal vote of thanks by Prof Suresh Chander, HOD Dogri. Faculty present included Prof Pankaj Nandan, Prof. Vasundra Raje, Dr. Anu Salaria, Mr. Sudhir Kotwal, Dr. Mohd. Rouf Bhat, Ms Poonam Rani, Ms Preeti Mahajan.
