RAMBAN, JUNE 24: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan today chaired a meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) to review anti-narcotics measures and strengthen coordinated efforts against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.
Reviewing implementation of directions issued at the previous meeting, the DC directed the Drug Inspector to coordinate with Tehsildars and the Police Department and intensify enforcement drives against the illegal sale and misuse of narcotic substances. He directed the SDMs, Tehsildars and Excise Department to maintain strict vigil on illegal poppy and cannabis cultivation and take immediate action wherever detected, and called for focused analysis of factors pushing youth towards substance abuse along with strict surveillance in vulnerable areas.
Reviewing the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility at District Hospital Ramban, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper functioning of the IPD facility and provide quality medical care, counselling and follow-up support for rehabilitation and relapse prevention.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed progress under the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Campaign and directed officers to implement all scheduled activities in a time-bound manner. He directed the Assistant Commissioner Development to strengthen Panchayat Level Monitoring Committees and Panchayat-level Mahila Samitis, instructed officers concerned to intensify IEC awareness campaigns in government and private institutions, and asked the Excise Department to prepare a comprehensive awareness plan for youth. He
further directed capacity building of resource persons from schools, colleges, Anganwadi Centres and Self Help Groups to generate mass awareness, while the Assistant Commissioner Development and Tehsildars were asked to activate youth clubs for community mobilisation.
SSP Ramban Arun Gupta suggested measures to make society drug-free and stressed close coordination among departments, educational institutions, community organisations and civil society members.
Among those present were SSP Ramban Arun Gupta, ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, SDM Banihal Mohammed Naseeb Bajraan, SDM Ramsoo Syed Mazahir Hussain Shah, ACD Sheraz Ahmed, Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamal Zadu, the CHO, Tehsildars, the Drug Control Officer and officers from various enforcement and line departments. Tehsildars and other officers concerned also joined virtually.
