DLSA Kupwara holds Awareness programme on ‘International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking’

KUPWARA, JUNE 26: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara under the aegis of JK Legal Services Authority and in collaboration with Education Department, Kupwara organized an awareness programme on ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ today at Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School, Kupwara.
The programme was organised under the supervision of Shazia Tabsum, Chairperson, DLSA (Pr. District & Session Judge) Kupwara, and under the guidance of Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Secretary DLSA/Sub-Judge, Kupwara.
The programme had the presence of Ayushi Sudan, DC Kupwara; Ab Majid Dar CEO Kupwara, Principal, GBHSS Kupwara, Assistant LADC Kupwara, Officials from Excise Department and Officials of GBHSS Kupwara.

The objective of the programme was to create an understanding and sensitization about the adverse consequences of drug abuse and how it affects the health of individuals and their families and its impact on the society.

Students from GBHSS Kupwara, KPS Kupwara, Alexandra School Kupwara, Rehmat Aalam School Kupwara, officials of DLSA Kupwara and Para Legal Volunteers also participated in the said programme.

Ayushi Sudan, DC Kupwara administered a pledge to protect youth, families, and communities from the devastating consequences of drug related issues to which the gathering actively took pledge. She also stressed upon the stakeholders to act together so that the society is freed from the devastating effects of drug abuse.
Resource person, Tawseef Raja, (Assistant LADC) while addressing the gathering highlighted the theme “The Evidence is clear, invest in prevention”. He also spoke on the importance of this day and highlighted the adverse effect on the health of the individual, society, economy of the country that is why it is necessary to uproot them with firmness.

He stressed upon the legal consequences of consumption, sale, cultivation and trafficking of drugs in the context of NDPS Act 1985.

The students and the speakers were felicitated by DC Kupwara and CEO Kupwara for the participation in the said programme.

The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks accorded by Chief Education Officer Kupwara, Ab Majeed Dar, who also appreciated the efforts of DLSA Kupwara, and District Administration Kupwara for organizing drug related awareness programmes in educational institutions of the District.

Moreover, a similar programme was held by Tehsil Legal Services Committee Tangdhar in collaboration with Govt. Hr. Sec. School Teetwal, at Legal Aid Clinic Teetwal.
