REASI, DECEMBER 30: District Magistrate Reasi, Nidhi Malik today chaired a meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review the implementation and enforcement measures aimed at curbing drug abuse and promoting a tobacco-free environment in the district.

The meeting was attended by SSP, Paramvir Singh, ADC, Reasi Rakesh Kumar, ACD Reasi and other concerned officers.

The District Magistrate reviewed the status of cases registered under the NDPS Act, including those under investigation as well as disposed of.

Calling for enhanced synergy among enforcement agencies, the District Magistrate directed the Police and other law-enforcement departments to strengthen information sharing and adopt a coordinated strategy to identify and dismantle networks involved in illegal drug trafficking. She emphasized focused interventions in drug-prone hotspots and the strengthening of ground-level surveillance across the district.

Reviewing the progress under the Nasha Mukt J&K campaign, the District Magistrate directed all departments to submit detailed reports of awareness activities along with geo-tagged photographs. She further underscored the need for strong coordination among stakeholders to consolidate anti-drug efforts at the grassroots level.

The District Magistrate also reviewed the status of anti-drug awareness camps in schools and colleges and directed the Education Department to continue organizing extracurricular and thematic activities to sensitize students about the harmful effects of drug abuse. She appreciated the institutions declared tobacco-free and directed that certificates of recognition be prominently displayed in such institutions.

To strengthen enforcement, the District Magistrate directed the concerned departments to initiate appropriate action, including cancellation of driving licences of individuals involved in drug-related cases. She further instructed strict action against persons driving under the influence of alcohol, in close coordination with the Police Department and called for awareness programmes for drivers highlighting the dangers and legal consequences of substance abuse and drunk driving.

She also emphasized the availability of drug-testing kits with the Police, Motor Vehicles Department and other relevant authorities to facilitate timely detection and effective enforcement.

Reviewing pharmacy inspections, the District Magistrate instructed the concerned department to intensify random checks of medical outlets and ensure the installation of computerized billing systems in all pharmacies to prevent misuse of prescription drugs.
