Anantnag, May 20 : Residents of Moman Arwani in Anantnag district are up in arms against the PDD for installing a transformer close to road with low height posing threat to them.

Locals told news agency that the electric transformer has been installed close to the ground and road due to which short circuits near the transformer are common.

“The transformer has been installed very close to the ground with low-lying wires posing a grave threat to lives of people, particularly children. We have pointed this out to PDD officials several times, but nothing has been done,” said Nawaz Ahmad, a local.

“The maximum threat looms large over the children who while playing do not pay attention towards the open transformer and can come in contact with the uninsulated live wires,” he said.

Ghulam Nabi another local said that the transformer has naked wire and conductors, which risks lives of people.

On Monday, according to him, a  cow came in contact of the wire and died on the spot.

Locals said that transformer has no link set so that if there will be any short circuit power can cut off immediately.  “Without link set, the transformer can prove more dangerous anytime if proper steps will be taken immediately,” they said.

Despite bringing the issue into the notice of higher ups several ups, no step has been taken on the ground, they said.

They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at the earliest to avoid any.

A PDD official said that he will seek report from ground staff in this regard following which steps for safety measures will be taken.
