UDHAMPUR, NOVEMBER 21: Government College for Women, Udhampur, organized a two-day National Seminar on “Linguistic Relationship of Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu: Ancient Roots to Modern Divergence” under the aegis of IQAC.

The Departments of Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu jointly hosted the event, bringing together scholars, academicians and students to explore the historical and cultural connections among the three languages.

The seminar was inaugurated by Padma Shri Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, Former Director and Nominee Chancellor, Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi. In his address, he described Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu as branches of the same cultural tree, stressing that Sanskrit forms the ancient foundation while Hindi and Urdu enrich India’s modern linguistic identity. He urged young scholars to view language as a bridge of harmony and creativity.

Principal Dr. Nalini Pathania welcomed participants, highlighting the seminar’s role in promoting unity in diversity and fostering academic excellence. Convenor Dr. Mool Raj outlined the objectives, emphasizing the shared linguistic heritage of the three languages.

The inaugural session featured a Saraswati Vandana by students of the Music Department. Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar and Dr. T.R. Raina, the keynote speaker, offered valuable insights into the evolution and divergence of the languages, with Dr. Raina elaborating on Hindi’s organic growth from Sanskrit and Prakrit traditions.

The seminar included paper presentations and technical sessions, where faculty, researchers and students engaged in discussions on linguistics, literature, phonetics and cultural synthesis. Proceedings were coordinated by Dr. Shahid Iqbal, while Dr. Om Parkash delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries and participants.
