BANDIPORA, JUNE 23: Government Degree College (GDC) Bandipora and GDC Gurez on Tuesday organised a series of awareness programmes under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) aimed at sensitising students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.

At GDC Bandipora, the NCORD Cell organised an interactive session on substance abuse and its preventive measures with NSS students. The session was conducted under the convenership of Prof. Irfan Ahmad Wagay, who highlighted the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse and stressed the role of youth in combating the menace. Various preventive measures, including awareness generation, counselling, peer support and community participation, were also discussed.

Meanwhile, the Red Ribbon Youth Club of the college organised a pledge ceremony on drug menace under the guidance of Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra. Coordinated by Dr. Mehrajuddin Talie, the programme witnessed students taking a solemn pledge to abstain from substance abuse and actively support initiatives aimed at curbing drug abuse. The ceremony focused on fostering awareness, responsibility and healthy lifestyle choices among the youth.

The Literary Club of GDC Bandipora, in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Youth Club, also organised an interactive discussion on the health consequences of drug abuse. Conducted under the guidance of the Principal and coordinated by Prof. Saduf Shafi and Dr. Mehrajuddin Talie, the session provided students an opportunity to deliberate on the adverse impact of substance abuse on physical, mental and social well-being while reinforcing the importance of a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

Similarly, GDC Gurez organised a workshop on “Interactive Discussion on Future Roadmap and Sustainability Planning under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” for outgoing students of the 6th Semester. The Principal, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, deliberated on the need to sustain the objectives of NMBA through awareness, responsible citizenship and active community participation. He urged students to act as ambassadors of a drug-free society and contribute towards building a healthy and progressive nation.

The workshop featured interactive discussions during which students shared their views and strategies for promoting the message of a drug-free lifestyle within their communities. The Principal underscored the importance of continued awareness campaigns and youth engagement to ensure the long-term success of the campaign.

In continuation of the International Day of Yoga celebrations observed on June 21, a brief yoga session was also conducted during the programme. Students and staff actively participated in yoga exercises and breathing techniques, highlighting the role of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being and a healthy lifestyle.

The programmes concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment towards building a healthy, aware and drug-free society.
