JAMMU, APRIL 08: NSS unit Government Degree College Marh, in collaboration with IQAC, commemorated ‘Ambedkar Jayanti’ in the college by organizing a guest lecture.

The guest speaker of the event was Dr. K.C. Bhagat, former Professor and Senior Scientist SKUAST, Social worker, who highlighted contribution of Dr Ambedkar towards the Indian Nation, besides throwing light on imminent need for promoting sustainable agriculture practices by adopting natural farming.

About 55 students attended the lecture and furnished an affirmative feedback that vermi-composting offers significant entrepreneurial potential, along with sustainable waste management with production of high valued organic compost.

Dr. K.C. Bhagat congratulated the students and said “Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was a pioneer of social change and a versatile personality, made exceptional contributions to our country and society as a jurist, educationist, economist, social-reformer and political leader.”

“Even today, his strong belief in the constitutional system is the foundation of our democracy and good governance” he said and appraised the students the problems India faced after Independence such as poverty and shortage of food. He highlighted that although the Green revolution significantly boosted production and played a crucial role in combating hunger and malnutrition, but it also led to negative consequences such as soil pollution and a risk to flora and fauna which advocates the incorporation of organic farming. In his power point presentation he explained the whole process and species of earthworms used in vermin-composting.
