GDC Vijaypur organises Symposium on “Voting Rights”

SAMBA, FEBRUARY 27: Department of Political Science, in collaboration with NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur organised a symposium on the theme, “Vote for Democracy” as part of Voting Awareness Campaign.

Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta, Principal of the college guided the event aimed to increase the enrollment of the new eligible voters and create awareness among the students about their voting rights and procedure for enrollment.  More than fifty college students participated in the activity with great enthusiasm, fervor and zeal.

The event commenced with the welcome address by Prof. Anita Jamwal, HOD Political Science. She briefed the students about the importance of voting in a democracy and explained in detail how to register in the electoral rolls through online mode and also enlightened the students about the history of election commission of India. The terms and conditions of the competition were informed by Prof. Renuka Kundal, Lecturer, Department of Political Science. Principal of the college Dr. (Prof.) Vandana Gupta while speaking on the occasion said that voting is a fundamental act of civic participation through which young people contribute to democracy. While it’s just one of many ways to engage in civic life, it is a powerful way for young people to make their voices heard and to have an impact on issues that affect them.

The event was coordinated by Prof. Anita Jamwal and Prof. Renuka Kundal. It was co-cordinated by Prof. Mamta Gupta, Dr. Anoop Bhagat, Prof. Ritu Bhagat, Dr. Manoj Heer, Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (NSS PO), Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo and Dr. Radhika Rasyal.
