GMC Doda hosts CME on dengue Fever to enhance medical awareness

DODA, JULY 27: Government Medical College (GMC) Doda organized a comprehensive Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on Dengue Fever on Friday, July 26, 2024.

The multidisciplinary event featured speakers from the Departments of Community Medicine, Microbiology, and Internal Medicine. The audience included consultants, resident doctors, MBBS students, and various health professionals from the Department of Health Services, who gathered to gain insights into all aspects of Dengue Fever.

Dr. Mohammad Arif Kelam from the Department of Internal Medicine delivered an in-depth presentation titled “Clinical Profile and Management of Dengue.” He detailed the signs and symptoms, phases of Dengue Fever, high-risk groups, Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, Dengue Shock Syndrome, and home care for uncomplicated cases, providing a comprehensive overview for the participants.

Dr. Walied Balwan from Department of Community Medicine discussed the epidemiological burden and current challenges of Dengue Fever in India, with a focus on Jammu & Kashmir. He also highlighted various preventive measures initiated by the Government of India to combat the spread of the disease.

Dr. Sameera Zargar from Department of Microbiology provided valuable information on the laboratory diagnosis of Dengue Fever, informing participants about the available testing facilities for accurate detection of the virus. Her session aimed to enhance the diagnostic capabilities of the attending medical professionals.

Principal of GMC Doda, Dr. Rakesh Bahl, who was the chief guest, emphasized the importance of preventive measures in combating Dengue Fever. He stressed the need for lifestyle changes, such as maintaining general cleanliness, proper waste disposal, and regular cleaning of water-holding containers to prevent mosquito breeding. Dr. Bahl also advocated for health education in schools to raise awareness among the younger population.

Veteran healthcare professionals, including Dr. R. S. Manhas, Dr. Mohd Saleem Bhat, Dr. Nazir Ahmed Var, Dr. Sheikh Mahvish, Dr. Farooq Ahmed Runyal, Dr. Gurjinder, and Dr. Mohd Abbas, along with various other faculties from different specialties, attended the CME.

The event successfully highlighted the critical aspects of Dengue Fever and the collective effort required to control its impact on public health.
