Ganderbal, Sep 11: The Government Boys High School in Hayan village in Kangan is facing multiple issues with aging infrastructure causing inconvenience to students.

Established in 1942, the school has 142 students and is being accommodated in an old building and a makeshift tin shed.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in 2012, a local resident donated land for the construction of a new school building. But it could not be utilised as Irrigation and Flood Control Department refused to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the construction of the building, citing proximity with the river Sindh.

Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ganderbal Abdul Majeed Kohli said that new land has been identified for the construction of a school building in Hayan village.

He said that the previous land donated by a local person was not approved by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department due to its proximity to the river.

Kohli said that the necessary paperwork for the new land is being completed and that construction will begin soon.

He added that the new building will be able to accommodate all 140 students of the school—(KNO)
