SRINAGAR, MARCH 07:The Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Kashmir, has urged the tourists visiting Kashmir valley for the ensuing Spring season and annual Tulip festival to approach the department in case they are sold counterfeit machine-made items by business establishments or traders in the name of Kashmir Handicrafts.

In a press release issued here today, spokesperson of the Department stated that Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Kashmir has issued an advisory, asking tourists and buyers to immediately contact the department if they suspect buying counterfeit items in the name of Kashmir Handicrafts by any business establishment or trader. “Tourists and buyers can register their grievances on the Department’s official email ID dir.handicraft@jk.gov.in or contact on telephone number: 0194-2472065,” he added.

The spokesman further stated that all business establishments and traders dealing in Kashmir Handicrafts have been advised to desist from selling machine-made or counterfeit handicraft items to tourists and buyers in the name of genuine hand-made products, failing which stringent action shall be taken against them under the Quality Control Act, 1976, which includes imposition of penalty, seizure of goods, cancellation of registration and blacklisting.
