BANDIPORA, APRIL 25: In a significant action against illegal narcotics cultivation, Bandipora Police, in coordination with Revenue and Excise departments, destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in Village Check Lawaypora and registered two cases under the NDPS Act.
Police Station Bandipora had received credible information regarding unlawful cultivation of poppy plants by certain individuals in the area. Acting swiftly on the input, a joint team comprising officials from Police, Revenue, and Excise departments conducted a raid at the identified location.
During the operation, illegal poppy cultivation spread over more than 8 marlas of land was detected. The crop was immediately destroyed on the spot to prevent its misuse.
In this connection, two FIRs have been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. FIR No. 44/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act was registered against Gh. Mohd Malik S/o Gh. Rasool of Village Lawaypora and FIR No. 45/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act against Gh. Hassan Khan S/o Sarafraz Khan of Village Lawaypora
Further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
The district administration has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs and illegal cultivation, stating that strict action will continue against individuals involved in such activities to ensure a drug-free society.
