In the absence of a popularly elected Government, which, no matter what others say, is always well aware of the ground realities and the issues people face, the execution of Government contracts is witnessing solid bottlenecks. At the same time, the apathy of the contractors is also visible. They are facing issues that they have never heard of. But those who should have pitched in to address the same preferred to shut their eyes and close their ears.
There is more to these issues and the same can be understood by the sudden change of affairs at the prime locations at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and other spots. There is no steadiness when it comes to the line of action, and policy of the Government which day in and day out resorts to harsh and sudden decisions regarding the changes in the lease permits; the same is resulting in an invisible disaster which the babus are taking casually.
Lastly, the environment of fear which has been created in the financial institutions of J&K, especially J&K Bank is having telling effects on the overall financial scenario of UT. There is no objection to the cracking of whip on the J&K Bank employees who were involved in subversive activities, but the same has resulted in altogether a different environment—affecting those who are innocent and know only the work for which they are being paid. There is a need for allowing the Bank and its employees to work freely, just like any other financial institution in the country.
The solution remains in ensuring that the babus take a back seat now and let an elected Government—which must be allowed to deliver with its prime focus on healing touch, even though that has not been anyone’s trademark so far– come to the fore through free and fair early elections in J&K because people of this part of the world deserve that; it is their right, but as of now the path which the people are treading seems endlessly dark without any ray of light visible anywhere.
