Srinagar: J&K Students Association here today Urged Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to drop UAPA charges on 7 Kashmiri students, seeking mercy on humanitarian grounds.

In a statement, National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami said that 7 Kashmiri students enrolled at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir were arrested after celebrating India’s World Cup loss and were booked under UAPA.

He Urged Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor to drop UAPA charges on the students, as this punishment could ruin their futures.

The UAPA charges will have serious consequences on the academic and future careers of the students and should be withdrawn, he added.

The charges may also lead to serious psychosomatic repercussions for the students and, therefore, should be withdrawn.

We request them to give Chance to the Students to Continue their studies and restore their faith in the ethical standing of your Institution and the fair constitution of India, so that the children will find some retrieve and their futures are preserved, he added.

National Spokesperson of Association Aadil Bhat said that, It has been reported that these students abused and threatened other students supporting India, warning them to be silent or face shooting.

We condemn this act and behavior in the harshest of words. There is no place for such behavior in a civilised society.

The issue should be resolved amicably, rather than taking it to Court and Police station. We are not justifying their act, but such charges will result in their career assassination, he added.

All the students deserve mercy, care and sympathy. There can be a loopholes, frailties, infirmities, foolishness, but at the same they possess golden knack, gifted aptitude, undeniable expertise and more.

The Association requested Home Minister to set them free, providing an opportunity for them to make numerous contributions.

The association urged Home Minister and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant government to give a chance to involve and bring them into the mainstream arena.

By providing opportunities for rehabilitation, the government can play a pivotal role in reshaping their futures and connect them with the hopes and aspirations of their progress and build a society in which the Youth is the key driver of the development and prosperity of J&K.
