SHOPIAN, MAY 26: In a significant move towards environmental sustainability and grassroots empowerment, JKRLM Shopian in collaboration with Forest department Shopian launched a massive plantation drive under the theme “One SHG Member, One Sapling.”
The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from Self Help Group (SHG) members across all Community Development Blocks of the district.
Hundreds of saplings were planted across rural pockets, reinforcing a powerful message of community ownership and collective climate action.
Divisional Forest Office ensured full logistical and technical support for the campaign, including the provision of high-quality saplings and expert plantation guidance to SHG members.
This green initiative aligns with JKRLM’s broader mission of integrating sustainable livelihoods with ecological preservation and contributes meaningfully to achieving the United Nations SDGs
JKRLM Shopian, in partnership with the Forest Department, plans to replicate and expand this model across the district to deepen community involvement in environmental stewardship and resilience-building efforts.
