Justice Sanjeev Kumar inaugurates Legal Literacy Club at Kathua School

KATHUA, APRIL 04: A Legal Literacy Club was today inaugurated at Jammu Sanskriti School, Kathua, with the objective of promoting legal awareness and sensitizing students to their rights and duties as responsible citizens.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority inaugurated the club as the Chief Guest.

In his inaugural address, Justice Sanjeev Kumar emphasized the importance of legal literacy among young minds. He highlighted the role of such clubs in fostering a culture of justice, equality and constitutional values among the youth at grassroots level. He also stressed upon the importance of fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution and urged everyone to diligently perform their duties alongside being aware of their rights.

Among others present on the occasion were Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Shazia Tabassum; Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kathua, Jatinder Singh Jamwal; Secretary, DLSA Kathua, Urvashi R. Bhargav; Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma; President, Kathua Bar Association; Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC); besides Chairman of Jammu Sanskriti School, faculty members and students.

Chairman, DLSA Kathua, Jatinder Singh Jamwal also addressed the gathering and encouraged students to develop a keen understanding of legal processes and societal responsibilities. He said the District Legal Services Authority would remain committed to imparting theoretical knowledge and practical insights, thereby equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of law.

During the programme, students presented a variety of cultural items reflecting their enthusiasm and creativity. A Nukkad Natak titled “Kanoon Par Hai Sabka Adhikaar” was also presented, highlighting the importance of legal awareness and the role of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in ensuring access to justice for all.

The speakers underscored the significance of legal awareness in empowering citizens and encouraged students to actively participate in the activities of the Legal Literacy Club and act as ambassadors of legal awareness in society.

The establishment of the Legal Literacy Club marks a significant step towards strengthening legal outreach and education at the school level, in line with the mandate of the Legal Services Authorities.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by the Vice Principal of Jammu Sanskriti School.
