Legal awareness camps held across Reasi district

REASI, JANUARY 27: Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Khalil Choudhary (also Pr. District and Sessions Judge Reasi) and Secretary Pooja Gupta, the District Legal Services Authority Reasi, in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, organized an awareness camp on Prohibition of Child Marriage Act at Madarss-Kheral.

The general public was made aware about the ill effects and legal consequences of child marriage, provisions of the Prohibition of child Marriage Act, 2006 and the importance of ensuring education, health and overall development of children. They were also informed about free Legal Aid services available through DLSA Reasi and the role of Legal Services Authorities in safeguarding the rights of women and children.

Another awareness program themed “Say no to Drugs” was organised at Garan- by PLVs of TLSC Katra. The locals were sensitized to the harmful effects of drug abuse and the need for prevention and rehabilitation. They were encouraged to seek timely, confidential and stigma free assistance through the National Drug De-Addiction Helpline (1933), Tele-MANAS-National Health Assistance and Wellness Support Helpline (14446), reinforcing a rights based and compassionate approach to recovery.

Meanwhile, door to door awareness on the benefits of Lok Adalats and Free legal aid was conducted by PLVs of DLSA Reasi and TLSC Mahore. The masses were made aware about the process of bringing cases before the Lok Adalat, eligibility criteria for availing free legal aid, the types of matters that can be settled. PLVs also responded to the queries of the participants
