Most human tragedies have occurred in the Line of Control (LoC); families have been torn apart and never reunited. In some instances, we discover that a brother who lives on this side of the Line of Control and his sister who lives on the opposite side haven’t spoken in decades and have forgotten each other’s faces. At the same time, some people have got properties on the other side of the LoC, but that is equal to having nothing. In such a scenario, if India can get to unite both sides by retrieving the part which is being held by Pakistan, then the same would be a great service for only the people of J&K but the entire humanity—this retrieval, whenever it happens, will put an end to the age-old, unending human sufferings.
But the question remains whether India will attain this goal through war or other ways. Even though it is not yet obvious, the same needs to be done without going to war because that would open a new chapter and might not produce the results India hopes for. It would be far preferable to resolve the issue diplomatically, and that seems to be the only option.
If we go by what Rajnath Singh has said, the people of PoK are facing atrocities and are subjected to oppression at the hands of Pakistan and India feels their pain, keeping an eye on what is happening there, then the people on the other side would be more than eager to see themselves becoming a part of united J&K under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
Singh also hinted at a rebellion by the citizens of PoK and if that happens, things would be far more interesting to observe. Currently, the main priorities should be on using diplomatic means to reclaim the territory that Pakistan has wrongfully held, ending human suffering, bringing up the atrocities that the people of PoK are subjected to in international fora, and finally using influence to ensure that the goal of a united, peaceful, and prosperous J&K is realized.
