Srinagar, Sep 12 : On the occasion of the ongoing month of Rabiʿ al-Awwal, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar held a dignified Majlis-e-Rahmat-ul-lil-Alameen ﷺ at the historic Jama Masjid, which drew a large gathering of devotees.

As per a statement issued to the news agency, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, was scheduled to preside over the event. However, he was once again placed under house arrest by the authorities, preventing him from fulfilling his religious and institutional duties.

The Majlis was presided by prominent scholars Maulana Mir Rahmatullah Qasmi, who was the guest of honour , while Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keing and Maulana Shehzad Anwari Qasmi from Poonch also spoke on the occasion. Speakers highlighted various aspects of the life and message of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, stressing that in today’s turbulent times the welfare of humanity lies only in following the Prophet’s guidance.

Maulana Rahmatullah Qasmi in his presidential address underlined that the root cause of the problems facing the Muslim community is its distance from the Seerah and Islamic teachings. He said that without returning to the true path of Islam, there can be no resolution of the challenges and crises we face.

The scholars unanimously strongly condemned the detention of the Mirwaiz. Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keing presented a resolution denouncing the restrictions imposed on him, which was unanimously endorsed by the participants, terming the action undemocratic and unjustified interference in religious affairs.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement on X expressed deep regret at being prevented from attending the Majlis. He said that while political and human rights of the people already stand denied, religious freedoms too are being curtailed through repeated detentions, silencing of voices, interference in matters such as the installation of the Ashoka plaque at Hazratbal, tampering with the Muslim calendar, and preventing religious functions

The Mirwaiz affirmed that despite such restrictions, the pulpit of Jama Masjid will continue to speak out not only against interference in religious matters but also against the injustices and disempowerment that people of the region are subjected to
