SHOPIAN, JULY 29: As part of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) nationwide “Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao” campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0, the Municipal Council (MC) Shopian today conducted a comprehensive cleanliness drive at Sanglo Nallah to promote sanitation, protect local water resources and prevent water-borne diseases during the monsoon season.
The drive witnessed active participation from Municipal Council officials, Swachhata Executives, Community Mobilizers, sanitation workers and local residents, who jointly removed solid waste, plastic debris, silt and other obstructions from the water body and its adjoining banks, restoring the natural flow of water.
Alongside the cleanup, awareness sessions were conducted to educate residents and commercial establishments about the harmful effects of dumping waste into water bodies. Participants were urged to adopt source segregation, responsible waste disposal and community-led sanitation practices.
The initiative reflects the Municipal Council Shopian’s continued commitment to maintaining a clean environment, safeguarding public health and encouraging active public participation in building a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Shopian.
