Measures discussed to improve traffic management system in Udhampur Town

UDHAMPUR, MAY 11: Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa today chaired a meeting with officers and representatives of the transport unions to review and strengthen the traffic management system in Udhampur town.

Additional District Development Commissioner Jugal Kishore; Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh and other officers besides representatives from transport unions participated in the meeting.

Detailed discussions were held on key traffic-related issues, including overloading of vehicles, establishment of temporary parking spaces, maintenance of internal roads in and around Udhampur town and improvement of traffic management practices.

Emphasis was laid on adopting effective measures to decongest city roads and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The Traffic Police were instructed to regulate traffic efficiently, minimize traffic jams and strictly check overloading with the support of the local police to avoid inconvenience to the general public.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for widespread awareness regarding road safety rules and directed the concerned authorities to take corrective measures for making roads safer for commuters.
Calling for strict enforcement of traffic regulations, the DC asked the Motor Vehicles Authority and Traffic Department to take stern action against violators and emphasized increasing penalties for offences such as overloading, riding without helmets and overspeeding.

The ARTO was directed to identify designated stopping points for vehicles, while the Executive Engineer, PHE was instructed to repair leaking water pipes in Udhampur town. The concerned departments were also directed to repair potholes on all roads falling within Municipal Council limits.
