Migrant Employees Plight!

The problem of Kashmiri Pandits and other migrant employees has grown increasingly complicated as both the government and the employees adhere to opposing extremes. The administration, on the other hand, has categorically stated that the employees who are not attending the offices will not be paid their salaries. This is a harsh stance that has been taken which needs to be reconsidered because many of these employees have been killed in multiple terror-related occurrences, making their fear genuine which must be taken into account at every cost.

Some of the migrant workers and Kashmiri pandit workers who earlier stayed in Kashmir, despite killings have now fled to Jammu where they are calling for relocation for their safety. They are not refusing to work; all they are asking for is their safety. With tensions already running high, the administration taking a stronger stance will only make things worse and might even give the impression that it doesn’t care about the safety of these employees and won’t take any concrete measures.

It is something that needs to be avoided; the administration and the migrant workers cannot afford to be at odds with one another given the strain that is already being placed on these employees as a result of the departments’ recent show-cause notices ordering them to resume their responsibilities. These employees are currently in a difficult situation where the administration has sort of raised its hands by making it clear that they will only be paid if they return to their duties in Kashmir. This is not a sympathetic stance taken by the administration as it is aware of the situation on the ground in the Valley.

As a relief to these employees—particularly those—who have not been attending their offices, the LG-led administration must take measures to ensure their salaries are released without any further delay. There is a need not to create further problems for them from the other side, because they have been already facing a lot which must have left them mentally disturbed. The administration must work to ease it up for them from every side and facilitate their sustenance.

The issue at hand is serious and to address that, the administration must find a middle path to pave a way for addressing their issues and fulfilling their demands, and at the same time gets near to what it is seeking. All they require is a healing touch which they should get by safeguarding their right to life because there is a continuous threat to their lives and the administration is quite aware of that. Further anguish caused to them would result in more harm, better is to find a suitable solution and make them feel at home.
