Militant Arrested in Tral, Arms Ammo Recovered

Srinagar, Nov 18 : Security Forces arrested a militant along woth arms and ammunition in Tral area of South Kahmir Pulwama District on Monday.

A top police officer told  that a joint operation by the Awantipora Police, 42 Rashtriya Rifles, and 180 Battalion CRPF led to the arrest of a terrorist affiliated with the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in Tral.

The accused, identified as Irshad Ahmad Chopan, a resident of Lurgam, Tral, was apprehended in the orchards of Pinglish village, he said.

Police recovered a pistol, two magazines, and 18 live rounds from his possession, along with incriminating materials, the official said adding that Preliminary investigations suggest the arrested person has been involved in several terror-related activities across South Kashmir.”

The officer further said that Chopan was involved in a recent case registered under FIR No. 114/2024 which pertains to the shooting of a non-local laborer, Shubam Kumar from Bijnore, Uttar Pradesh, on October 24, 2024, which left the victim critically injured.

He said that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to uncover further details about his activities and possible associates.
