KISHTWAR, JUNE 14: A one-day Millet Awareness Campaign was conducted today at Gulabgarh Padder under the National Food Security Mission – Nutri-Cereals (NFSM) initiative. The program was hosted by Department of Agriculture to promote the cultivation and consumption of millets- the most nutritious, climate-resilient, and sustainable crops. The promotional campaign is a Government of India’s initiative to promote millets as “Shree Anna.”

The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of over 500 local farmers, students, and stakeholders, making it a vibrant and impactful awareness drive. A huge rally of students, farmers, and agricultural officials marched together holding placards to raise awareness on millet nutrition, food security, and sustainable agriculture.

The campaign was organized under the leadership of Chief Agricultural Officer Kushal Chandel whose meticulous planning and coordination ensured its resounding success.

Support poured in from various departments including Education, Horticulture, Fisheries, and Sheep Husbandry, reflecting the interdepartmental commitment toward holistic rural development through millet promotion.

During the technical sessions, Dr. Narinder Paul, Head, KVK Kishtwar, shared detailed insights into the scientific package of practices for major potential millets suited to the region.

Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Padder Dheeraj Singh also addressed the gathering, emphasizing millet’s role in food security and farmer income.

Several officials from the Agriculture Department were present and played key roles in the campaign’s successful execution.

The event concluded with informative demonstrations, interactive discussions, and the distribution of educational materials highlighting the health benefits, economic advantages and best practices for millet cultivation.
