Mirwaiz castigates authorities for electricity crisis
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsappTelegram

Srinagar, Apr 26 : Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Umar Farooq while addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar said that the electricity situation in Kashmir has become alarming.

“Although lack of electricity has been an issue since decades, it has never been so bad at this time of year. People from all over the valley have been calling on me and expressing their deep concern about lack of electricity,” Mirwaiz said as per a statement issued to the news agency.

“It is the fundamental duty of the ruling dispensation to provide the basic amenities of electricity to the people. Despite having huge water resources and generation capacity, the electricity produced by the state is exported outside and we who have the first right to it are living in darkness. We are told that great prosperity has come to us when the basic facility of electricity is nowhere. Lack of electricity is severely impacting our daily life, leaving our homes and business powerless,” he said.

Mirwaiz said that it is not that people are not paying, in the past few years power tariff has been increased three times, smart meters have been installed all over and yet electricity is elusive.

He urged the authorities to immediately take corrective measures and ensure undisrupted power supply to people who are facing severe problems due to its unavailability
