BUDGAM, MAY 12: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), a series of awareness, enforcement and public outreach activities were conducted across district Budgam today with the active participation of educational institutions, health authorities and enforcement agencies to strengthen the campaign against drug abuse and substance addiction.

At Shunglipora area of Khag, a Mega Health Camp was organised under the banner of NMBA with the objective of promoting awareness regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse and tobacco consumption. The programme focused on reaching rural populations through awareness activities and individual counselling sessions conducted by medical professionals and healthcare workers.

During the camp, the public was sensitised about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and quitting tobacco at an early stage to prevent serious health complications.

Many OPD tickets were issued during the camp and free medicines were distributed among patients to ensure better healthcare support and encourage preventive healthcare practices.

Special emphasis was laid on counselling sessions where people were educated about the ill effects of substance abuse, tobacco addiction and the importance of mental and physical well-being. The initiative received an encouraging response from the local population.

The Health Administration Khag played a key role in the successful conduct of the camp and in spreading awareness regarding de-addiction and tobacco control.

Meanwhile, awareness activities under NMBA were organised at Government Higher Secondary School Budgam where students were educated about the harmful consequences of drug abuse and motivated to adopt a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. The programme aimed to create awareness among the youth and strengthen their role in building a drug-free society.

In another initiative, students and staff of Government Degree College Khansahib carried out a cleanliness and awareness drive by destroying wild bung growing in the vicinity of the college campus. The activity was conducted under the NMBA campaign to prevent misuse of narcotic substances and to promote a clean and safe environment.

Further, inspection drives of pharmacies were conducted at Bugam, Gowherpora (Chadoora) and SK Pora (Magam) to ensure strict adherence to prescribed norms and regulations related to the sale and distribution of medicines. The inspections were aimed at strengthening monitoring mechanisms and curbing the misuse of drugs and psychotropic substances.

The district administration reiterated its commitment towards making Budgam a drug-free district through sustained awareness programmes, enforcement measures and active public participation. People were urged to cooperate with authorities and collectively work towards building a healthier, drug-free and tobacco-free society.
