SAMBA, MARCH 12: The District Information Centre, in collaboration with the Municipal Council Samba, organized an impactful street play (Nukkad Natak) here in the main Market, drawing public attention towards the importance of celebrating Holi in a safe, respectful, and environment friendly manner.

The vibrant cultural awareness event attracted a large gathering of local residents who witnessed compelling performances highlighting two crucial aspects of responsible Holi celebrations: water conservation by practicing dry Holi and ensuring respectful behavior towards women during festivities.

“Holi is a celebration of colors, joy and togetherness. Our goal is to preserve these beautiful traditions while adopting these to address contemporary concerns about water conservation and social responsibility,” said District Information Officer Ekshu Sharma, who was present at the event along with the Executive Officer of Municipal Committee Samba and other officials.

The street performers used a creative blend of theatrical skills and musical presentations to convey powerful messages about- Adopting water-saving practices during Holi to address growing concerns about water scarcity- Ensuring that celebrations remain respectful of personal boundaries-Creating an inclusive environment where everyone, particularly women, can participate without discomfort or harassment

The initiative comes at a time when communities across India are increasingly recognizing the need to balance traditional festival celebrations with environmental sustainability and social awareness.

“The enthusiastic response from the community today demonstrates that people are ready to embrace more conscious celebration methods,” said Sharma adding “Small changes in how we celebrate can make a significant positive impact on both our environment and social fabric.”

The Nukkad Natak is part of a broader awareness campaign being conducted throughout the district ahead of the Holi festival, being celebrated on March 14.
