Srinagar: Unknown gunmen suspected to be militants shot dead a Panch in Kolpora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.
They said the gunmen fired upon the Panch, Mohammad Yaqoob Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Sundoo Kulgam this evening. He was shifted to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.
Medical Superintendent of the district hospital Kulgam Dr Muzaffar Zargar confirmed to GNS that Dar was brought dead to the hospital. He said that Dar had bullet injuries in chest and neck.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that (militants) fired upon a Panch (Independent) identified as Mohammad Yaqoob Dar at Kolpora Srundoo area of Kulgam,” police said in a statement. In this incident, he had sustained critical gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment where he succumbed to his injuries, it said.
“Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law,” police said, adding, “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this incident.” Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on, the police added.
