Srinagar, May 14 : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Jammu Air Force base and Poonch forward areas on Thursday, an official told the news agency.

He said that the Defence Minister will interact with the soldiers and would ‘pat their backs’ for the successful conduct of “Operation Sindoor” launched against terror camps in Pakistan last week.

Besides Jammu airbase, Singh would also visit forward areas in Poonch. “The visit aims to boost the morale of soldiers and praise them for the operation against Pakistan,” the official added.

The visit comes after India launched “Operation Sindoor” to destroy terror camps in Pakistan in response to killing of 26 civilians in a major terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

Following the ‘Operation Sindoor’ launched by India, Pakistan attempted to launch drone and missile attacks on Army installations in India and also violated ceasefire along the Line of Control and the International Border, however, India thwarted the attempts promptly and precisely.

This is the first time India used indigenous air defence systems to thwart drone and missile attacks in several states, including Jammu and Kashmir from May 7 to 10.

Pakistan also targeted civilians areas in Rajouri, Poonch, Uri, Karnah, Keran, Ferozpur, Jaisalmer, and several other areas, killing innocent civilians – including Additional District Development Commissioner Rajouri – by resorting to unprovoked firing and artillery shelling.

The firing and shelling was promptly and effectively responded by the Army, while Indian Air Force also launched precise and precision based air strikes inside Pakistan without crossing the Line of Control and the International Border—
