REASI, MARCH 22: The District Administration of Reasi, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Malik, celebrated World Water Day 2025 by hosting a series of events aimed at raising awareness about water conservation.

World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, highlights the importance of water and inspires action to address the global water crisis. This year’s theme, “Glaciers – A Critical Lifeline,” underscores the essential role glaciers play in providing meltwater for drinking, agriculture, industry, clean energy production, and healthy ecosystems.

Special Gram Panchayats were organized across 153 Panchayats of 12 blocks of the District by the Rural Development Department. The events featured Jal Shapath (Water Pledge), water testing and redressal of public grievances.

The day’s activities were designed to engage the community in collective action toward water conservation. In addition, the Jal Shapath was also taken by participants across 966 Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) organized by the ICDS Department, and by students of 931 schools organized by the School Education Department.

The pledge was also taken in all district and sectoral offices. Approximately 20,000 people participated in the celebrations.

Additionally, different schools in Reasi organized painting competitions, slogan-writing contests, awareness programs, Nukkad Nataks, rallies, symposiums, and quiz competitions on the themes like “Save Water, Save Life” to engage the community in water conservation efforts. Plantation drives were also carried out at different locations.

As part of the initiative, the Jal Shakti Department conducted water testing using Field Testing Kits in various panchayats to assess pH levels, chloride and ammonia content in water, promoting safe water practices.
