Srinagar, Dec 07 : After the complaints about alleged overcharging by the transport operators at several tourist destinations, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari on Saturday carried out a surprise inspection at several tourist destinations.

A team of officials, as per the news agency led by RTO Kashmir and accompanied by other senior officers, inspected several transport services at tourist destinations to ensure compliance with approved fare rates.

Officials said the move was a part of the RTO’s campaign to curb unethical practices after reports of overcharging were received and to uphold the region’s reputation as a tourist-friendly destination.

They said that during the inspection, RTO Kashmir interacted with several tourists and locals to gather feedback on the ground about fare discrepancies and the overall quality of transport services.

The official said immediate action was also taken against a few individual operators found violating fare regulations, with fines and warnings.

As per the officials, RTO Kashmir highlighted the importance of maintaining ethical practices to safeguard the interests of tourists and preserve the region’s image.

“We are committed to ensuring a fair travel experience for all visitors. Operators found guilty of overcharging will face strict penalties, including suspension of permits or cancellation of licenses,” an official stated.

He said that the RTO Kashmir has urged tourists to report incidents of overcharging by contacting the dedicated helpline or emailing touristcomplaints.rto@gmail.com. The official added that these efforts aimed to establish a transparent and tourist-friendly environment
