Samagra Shiksha, other initiatives transforming school education in Shopian through digital upgrades, student inclusion interventions

SHOPIAN, MAY 9: School Education Department Shopian has emerged as a leading example of educational transformation during the financial year 2025-26 by undertaking wide-ranging initiatives focused on quality education, digital learning, inclusive development and student welfare.

Through sustained efforts under various flagship programmes and schemes, the department has significantly strengthened educational infrastructure, improved literacy outcomes and enhanced access to learning opportunities for all sections of society.

The district has witnessed remarkable progress in infrastructure upgradation, smart learning initiatives and welfare support for Children With Special Needs (CWSN), reflecting the Government’s commitment towards equitable and modernised education.

As part of digital transformation initiatives, 42 schools were strengthened under Smart School interventions. Further enhancing digital education, 25 schools were covered under the Smart Class Project at an estimated cost of Rs 45 lakh. The project included installation of smart boards, computers, IT infrastructure and modern teaching-learning equipment aimed at making classrooms more interactive, technology-enabled and student-friendly.

Besides, 74 smart stands were installed across schools to facilitate smart learning practices.
Under the Kindergarten initiative,130 schools were covered with an estimated expenditure of nearly Rs 2 crore for development of child friendly learning spaces and activity-based foundational education infrastructure.
Special focus was also laid on tribal education through establishment of 4 Smart Tribal Schools including UPS Amshipora, Nagbal Tullihalan, Mizpora and Shalidoora.

These schools were provided with smart classroom facilities, uniforms and other educational support to improve learning outcomes and educational accessibility in tribal areas.

The department also recorded notable achievements under Samagra Shiksha. During the Talaash initiative under ULLAS, a total of 23,137 learners appeared in FLNAT-III examination, enabling the district to achieve 100 percent literacy milestone.

In the field of inclusive education, extensive efforts were made for the welfare of Children With Special Needs (CWSN).Assessment-cum-measurement camps were conducted across the district for identification of support of specially-abled students.

Under the IED component of Samagra Shiksha,182 aids and appliances were distributed among 146 CWSN students as per their assessed requirements. Additionally, financial assistance amounting to Rs 7,12,500 was distributed among 518 CWSN beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer mode under various components including transport allowance, escort allowance, reader allowance and stipend for girls.

The department also ensured uninterrupted educational support to migratory and seasonal students through establishment of 116 Seasonal Education Centres across the district during 2025-26.

As part of student welfare initiatives, free textbooks worth Rs 44,87,200 were distributed among 20,739 students, while uniform assistance amounting to Rs 80,92,200 was provided through DBT mode to 13,487 students.

These achievements reflect the unwavering commitment of the School Education Department Shopian towards modernization of educational infrastructure, inclusive learning, digital transformation and equitable access to quality education, paving the way for a progressive and future-ready educational ecosystem in the district.
