Srinagar, Oct 16 : Security has been significantly ramped up outside the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar ahead of the highly anticipated oath-taking ceremony of Chief Minister-elect and Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) leader Omar Abdullah today.
The area around the SKICC, which is set to host the swearing-in ceremony, has been fortified with additional security personnel, and surveillance measures to ensure a smooth event.
News agency KINS reported that the authorities have placed the area under heightened security, with local police and paramilitary forces patrolling key routes and monitoring entry points.
The move comes in light of the increased political significance of the event, as Omar Abdullah is set to assume the role of Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Dignitaries, high profile political leaders, are expected to attend the ceremony, marking the formal return of elected government after the gap of at least 10 years.
The event will be held at the iconic SKICC, located on the banks of the Dal Lake, an important political and cultural venue in Srinagar.
